Daily devotional Shorts drawn from one verse
A daily devotional Short is one verse, a short reflection and something to do today, in under a minute, in portrait. It is one of the easiest series to keep going because the script is short and the format never changes.
Doodaro builds the four or five drawn scenes from the devotional you write, in 9:16, with the narrator you pick once for the series. You check the scenes, redraw the one that shows the wrong picture, and export the Short.

How it works
- 1
Write the devotional
Set the project to portrait 9:16. Paste a verse and a reflection of 100 to 140 words into the Story box: the verse, what it means, one thing to do today, one line of prayer. Or give the story assistant the verse and ask for a 45-second devotional.
- 2
Doodaro builds the scenes
Pick Gentle Story Comics, soft graphite and watercolor that reads warm on a phone, or Midnight Chalk if your feed is dark. Build scenes gives you 4 or 5 scenes, each with a drawn picture and narration.
- 3
Review, then export
Play the Short on the storyboard. If the verse scene draws a symbol you would not use, edit the picture description and click Redraw on that scene. Give the closing line a 3-second hold, then render the MP4 and upload it as a Short.
Example: Psalm 46 verse 10 for a busy Monday
A 125-word devotional: the verse, two sentences on stillness, one thing to do at lunch, one line of prayer. Build scenes produced five scenes. Scene 3 drew a person asleep when the reflection was about being still at a desk, so the picture description was changed to 'person sitting at a desk, hands resting, eyes open, window with morning light' and only that scene was redrawn. The Short ran 48 seconds.
- Style: Gentle Story Comics
- Voice: soft American English narrator
- Length: 48 seconds
- Format: 9:16
Best practices
- Keep the Short under 60 seconds. At about 150 words per minute, that means 100 to 140 words: verse, reflection, one action, one line of prayer.
- Build 4 or 5 scenes of 8 to 12 seconds. Fewer scenes means each drawing gets time to finish on a phone screen.
- Put the verse in the first 5 seconds. Viewers decide whether to keep watching a Short in about 3 seconds, and the verse is the hook.
- Use the same style and the same narrator for 30 days in a row so the channel looks like one channel. Set the voice once per project and only override a scene if you must.
- Write 7 scripts at a time and build them in one sitting. Seven Shorts at 50 seconds each is under 6 minutes of exported video, which is a small slice of a monthly plan.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make daily devotional videos for YouTube Shorts?
Write a 100 to 140-word devotional around one verse, set the project to 9:16, pick a style and click Build scenes in Doodaro. Check the 4 or 5 scenes, redraw any that miss, and export the MP4. Upload it as a Short yourself; Doodaro does not publish for you.
What is the best length for a devotional Short?
Forty to fifty-five seconds. That keeps it under the 60-second limit for Shorts and Reels with room for a 3-second hold on the closing line.
Can I make a month of Shorts at once?
Yes, one project per Short. Write the scripts first, then build and export them in a batch. Minutes are counted on rendered exports, so 30 Shorts at 50 seconds is about 25 minutes of plan time.
Which drawing style works for devotionals?
Gentle Story Comics for a soft, warm look; Parchment Ink for scripture with an engraved feel; Midnight Chalk for white chalk on black, which is very readable on phones. Pick one and keep it for the whole series.
Can the narrator read the verse in my translation?
Yes. Paste the verse exactly as you want it read. You can preview any narrator reading up to 250 characters of your own text before you choose it, so test the verse itself.
Does Doodaro post the Short for me or schedule it?
No. You export an MP4 in 9:16 and upload it to YouTube, Instagram or TikTok yourself. There is no scheduling or automatic posting.
