What each tool feels like

Canva feels like a big, friendly design table. You pick a template, drop in stock photos or clips, type over them, add a transition and export. Because it is the same tool you use for posts, slides and thumbnails, everything is one login away, and the free tier covers a lot. What it does not do is draw. A Canva “whiteboard” video is a template with a hand graphic; the artwork is not drawn line by line, and there is no script-to-scenes step.

Doodaro feels like a storyboard produced from your script. Paste the script, or ask the story assistant for one, click Build scenes, and every scene arrives with a picture in the style you chose, a narration line in the voice you chose, and default timing. Review the cards and fix only what misses: Edit, Redraw, Revoice. The engine then draws each picture stroke by stroke, following the real line work of the artwork, and renders an MP4 on the server in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1.

They fit together more than they compete. Make the drawn video in Doodaro, make a thumbnail in the same style with Doodaro’s image generator, and use Canva for the post, the slide deck or a longer edit that mixes the MP4 with stock footage. If you only need one tool and your videos are stock-and-text, Canva is enough. If you want a video that looks hand-drawn, Canva cannot make it and Doodaro can.

How to move from Canva to Doodaro

  1. Write or copy the script for your video into a text file. If you only have a Canva design, use its on-screen text as an outline and ask Doodaro’s story assistant to expand it.
  2. Paste it into Doodaro’s Story step and click Build scenes. Pick a style that matches your brand (Clean Color or Minimal Indigo for a modern look, Sketch Note for summaries) or save your own template from your brand images.
  3. Pick a narrator, press Listen on each card, and Redraw or Revoice only the scenes that need it. Upload your own recording per scene if you have one.
  4. Set reveal and hold times, preview one scene, and render the MP4. Bring the MP4 back into Canva if you want to add music or stock clips. Test with the 2 free welcome minutes first.

Frequently asked questions

Can Canva make whiteboard animation videos?

Canva can make template-based videos with stock clips, text and transitions, but it is not a whiteboard drawing tool. It does not draw artwork stroke by stroke. Doodaro does: each scene's picture is drawn line by line in one of 37 hand-drawn styles.

Is Doodaro free like Canva?

Doodaro's Free plan gives you 2 welcome minutes once, so you can test a short video. Paid plans start at $39 a month for 120 rendered minutes. Canva has an ongoing free tier for general design; check their pricing page for video limits. Prices checked 2026-09-14.

Should I use Doodaro or Canva for YouTube?

Use Doodaro for the video itself if you want a hand-drawn explainer look, and Doodaro's image generator for a thumbnail in the same style. Use Canva if your videos are built from stock clips and text, or if you also need posts and slides in one place. Many channels use both.

Can I put my Doodaro video into Canva?

Yes. Doodaro exports MP4, which you can upload to Canva like any video clip. That is a common way to add a drawn scene to a larger Canva edit.

Does Doodaro have stock footage or music?

No. Doodaro draws every picture for your scenes and narrates them. Add music or stock clips afterward in Canva or another editor if you need them.
